Foreign Trade Promotion

Cape Trade Promotion Organisation

After a lengthy market research and ongoing consultation process, the Cape Trade Promotion Organisation draft business plan has been released for public comment.

Download the draft business plan either as an MS Word document (630KB) here, or alternatively download the same document as a WinZip archive (132KB) here (recommended!). Please note that this is a large document (59 pages) and so either way please prepared to be patient whilst the download takes place - espeacially if you are using a dial-up connection. For more advice, see the 'Help' section on the documents page

[Note: The WinZip archive requires an application called 'Winzip' (duh!) to open it. Get Winzip here. The evaluation version is free.]

Cape companies and service providers are encouraged to submit written comments on the draft business plan by 20 January 2002 to ensure that the proposals contribute towards export-related job creation in Cape Town and the Western Cape.

Please send your comments to the City of Cape Town's Trade Promotion Co-ordinator: Rae Wolpe.

For background information on the process leading up to the proposal of this business plan, read the background information and documents below.

The Trade business unit model (MS Word 247KB) is also now available. For an overview of the business modelling process see the Documents page.

Background

In partnership with relevant trade promotion role-players, a request for proposals to develop a business plan for a Cape Trade Promotion Organisation was sent out in January 2002.

The International Trade Institute for Southern Africa has subsequently been appointed to develop this business plan.

To inform the development of the business plan, the following preparatory work has been completed and is available here:
1. Initial Investigation into best practices and existing initiatives including the Trade Point model.
2. Trade Promotion User Needs Survey of 109 Western Cape Exporters

Successful preliminary service provider and exporter workshops have been held.

For further information please contact the City of Cape Town's Trade Promotion Co-ordinator: Rae Wolpe

Cape Trade Promotion Initial Investigation:

Download the Initial Investigation Report [dated June 6, 2002 (MS Word 433KB)] for information about:

Cape Trade Promotion Service Needs Survey (109 Western Cape companies)

A survey (see Documents below) of 46 trade promotion services in terms of levels of awareness, usage, and satisfaction has identified a number of service gaps, as well as key constraints facing both non-exporters and exporters which require attention to accelerate export growth.
